Helping the Hungry in Cleveland

Our strongest non-profit connection is with the Hunger Network of Cleveland, www.hungernetwork.org. The Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland is the largest direct emergency food network in Cuyahoga County. They operate 36 hunger centers and 18 hot meal sites that serve 40-50,000 people each month, half of whom are children.

A network of over 600 volunteers work year-round to feed the hungry of northeast Ohio. Special purchasing agreements enable the Hunger Network to provide meals for 24˘ each at hunger centers and 72˘ at hot meal sites. These purchasing agreements are enhanced and supported by efforts at the Cleveland Food Bank, and Harvest for Hunger. These organizations are also supported by Orlando Baking Co. through bi-weekly food donations.

Orlando Baking Company is proud to be one of the founding sponsors of the Hunger Network's "Best Party of the Year" annual fundraiser. In 2006, over $110,000 was raised at this fun gala. The 2007 party is December 7, at the Inter-Continental Hotel.

The Cleveland Food Bank

Our Another hunger related organization that Orlando Baking Company supports is The Cleveland Foodbank. The mission of the Cleveland Foodbank, www.clevelandfoodbank.org, is to alleviate hunger by providing food and support to agencies that feed the hungry.

The Foodbank serves as a clearinghouse for surplus food in the greater Cleveland area. The organization solicits donations from local and national food suppliers and manufacturers -- such as Orlando Baking Company -- and then distributes that food to hunger programs. Last year, the Foodbank distributed nearly 20 million pounds of food to 450 hunger centers in six counties. The Hunger Network purchases much of the food that supplies its' pantries and meal sites from the Cleveland Foodbank.

The Foodbank relies on the generosity of thousands of people who donate time, money and food each year to help feed the hungry. Thanks to these supporters, the Foodbank can distribute four meals for every dollar donated.

Orlando Baking Company is proud to participate in the "Taste of the NFL" every September to raise much needed funds for this hardworking organization.

Harvest for Hunger

Harvest for Hunger www.harvestforhunger.org is an annual food and funds drive coordinated by the Cleveland Foodbank. It is one of the largest food and funds drives in the nation. Proceeds from the campaign are given to local hunger centers, including agencies affiliated with the Hunger Network, in the form of food grants. Orlando participates in two benefits for this cause; "Celebrity Soup" and "Market Under Glass."

In addition to these worthy causes, Orlando also supports other area organizations and events around Northeast Ohio. Look for us at the Italian Festival in June, WDOK's Cafe CaravanŠ in downtown Cleveland throughout the summer, Vintage Ohio in Lake County in August, Taste of Little Italy in September, and Fabulous Food Show at the IX center in November.

Throughout the year Orlando also takes a supportive role in many other large and small events. Some of the other organizations that Orlando Baking Company has assisted:, DARE, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Ireland Cancer Center, The Kidney Foundation, The Cleveland Pops, The Cleveland Restaurant Association and The Cleveland Metroparks.
